Proverbs 27
soo i was reading proverbs todayyy:
here are v. 5-6
"Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy."-ESV
I guess most everyone has friends of varying degrees of closeness. I think i admire the ones that shake me back into reality, knowing that they only do so because they arent afraid to tell me cause they care.
This past year there has been much wrestling over the topic of "judging"but honestly i think we are called to rebuke/correct, etc, but like i said im not going to site verses right now in support of them because thats not the point of this post.
Anyways, I would prefer that the rebuke reflect genuine love than rebuke that comes out of a heart that is bitter with the intention to kill. but it does say that "better is open rebuke THAN hidden love" .. i think thats a difficult proverb to digest. would i be willing to accept the rebuke despite it being spoken out of bitterness/irritation?? But i guess, in the end it would benefit more than hidden love. I think i am guilty of hidden love. i tend to not speak truth cause im just afraid that ill wound someone. In v. 6, wounds are mentioned though. In the NIV Bible it says " Wounds from a friend can be trusted"I think this all falls back to what will happen in the long run. Would i be willing to suffer this painful cut or will i be willing to suffer a greater one that will come?
What makes this all so difficult to accept is the self-centered pride that i have inside me. the unwillingness to be vulnerable or hurt, thinking i deserve a wound free lifeee! The truth is im so sinful i need people around me to rebuke me. Im in need of so much correction, it's not even funny. Anywayss. Thank youuuuu to those who have been there to openly rebuke me i really appreciate it and i hope i can learn to do the same for youu .
hmms i dont understand the second half of v. 6 thoughh...
