this past month

By living with my grandmother these past months, I was able to see how simple eating can become a tedious activity.

During Dysphagia Month, a speech-language pathologist  from a rehabilitation center spoke on dysphagia. I think this area really interests me. I had a chance to try orange juice... honey thickened oj. It definitely made me more thirsty! Imagine that. Imagine having to take in liquids... in thickened form? if not most of the time, all the time because one cant swallow liquids , due to risk of food aspiration?

Okk . although my grandmother doesn't have a swallowing disorder, the food she intakes is quite different. She can mostly have soft foods, she definitely cannot have like hard hard foods, not because she cant swallow though, but because it is difficult for her to chew now. The mere fact that she cant take in what she used to means that her diet has changed, as well as her quality of living.Oh how fragile the human body can be.
The Lord gives and takes away, blessed be His name.
WAIT, but one thing that really came to me as an encouragement was that the SLP told us that even though food/liquids can be aspirated, everyone has a different body. One may react differently from another. Thus, just because aspiration occurs, it doesn't always mean that aspiration pneumonia or whatever will be bound to occur, our bodies are also fighting~
